Social Protection Service to be introduced in 11 atolls: Gender Ministry

MALE, June 6 (HNS) -- Gender Minister, Aishath Mohamed Didi, has said that Social Protection Service Centers will be introduced in 11 atolls by 11th July.
Speaking at an Information Ministry Press Conference, Aishath said that currently the construction of Social Protection Service Center is underway in Seenu, Thaa and Meemu atoll. And in addition to these atolls, the Ministry has decided to build the Centers in Laamu, Raa, Dhaalu, Haa Dhaalu, Noonu, Lhaviyani, Gaafu Dhaalu and Fuvahmulah.
The Minister said that 25 people would be sent abroad to study for Diplomas in Social Work and that 30 people would be trained in Maldives.
“In collaboration with the Australian New Castle University a course on Social Advance Certificate will also be held in July at the Faculty of Health Science,” Aishath said.
Social Protection Service Centers deal with issues concerning women, children, elderly and people with special needs. The Minister also added that by the year 2009 all atolls would have a Social Protection Service Center.
A Social Protection Service Center was established in Addu atoll last year.
